Title: Coupler conversion
Post by: Dawntreader on January 08, 2012, 04:46:05 PM
New to model railroading. Purchased a Spectrum 4-8-2  Lt. Mntn loco at a train show. The tender has a Rapido coupler and I would like to convert it to a knuckle type. Not sure how to do this or if Bachmann offers conversion parts or procedures. I didn't see anything in the parts listing on line. I'm open to good suggestions since I didn't get any results searching the forum.

MicroTrain 1129 or 1133 I believe is your best option short of grinding and drilling to mount a 1015 or equivilant coupler.

It can be a bit difficult - maybe consider taking a car or two of your rolling stock that already has Rapido couplers and replacing one end with a knuckle (usually more easily done) to fit the rest of the train?  Many (including myself) do that to give versatility to the converted cars.

Both the Micro-Trains site Tony linked and the transition cars are very good suggestions.

I'll throw in a Unimate short t shank as another.
