Title: bachmann chattanooga train set
Post by: bigbear62040 on January 31, 2012, 11:09:18 PM
Does any one know if this engine can be converted to DCC? 0-6-0 steam locomotive and tender with operating smoke and headlight. Thanks.

BB-

Any locomotive can be converted to DCC. However, the Chatanooga loco is far
too much of a toy to be worth the cost or effort of a conversion.

Don't know if this helps, but Bachmann now offers the 0-6-0 with DCC already installed.  There is still a smoke unit with an on/off switch in the cab.  I have tinkered with two of them.  They are pretty good locomotives.  I think the public agrees, as the DCC versions are hard to come by.

In the DCC version, the decoder is installed in the locomotive, on top of the frame, which has been flattened a bit to make room for the decoder.

While I believe is it possible to add a decoder to a conventional 0-6-0, I also believe it is more practical/economical to seek out an 0-6-0 with DCC on board.  Just an opinion...
