Title: Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern
Post by: privprac on July 24, 2007, 10:10:06 PM
I recently purchased a 4-8-4 Northern with DCC onboard. I have a standard DC system and will be getting an E-Z Command system. The loco comes with 2 jumpers. When are they to be used? The instruction sheet simply indicates using them after you remove the decoder. Why do that if the loco runs in DC mode without removing the decoder?

running a dcc loco in dc can harm the decoder I believe...

I does not harm the decoder, the starting voltage just goes up and it can be a bit annoying. I recommend that you use them for the time being, just keep the decoder in the box until you get your EZ command unit.

AFAIK the Bachmann decoder works fine with DCC.  My first USRA light 2-10-2 did.  I haven't tried the second 2-10-2 yet.
