A rerailer is used in many different way's.
To name a few..
It is used when you are adding loco's or rolling stock to make it easier for wheel alignment.
It is used after turns or turnout's to correct any car's that may become derailed.
If it is a terminal rerailer it is used for power supply which is commonly used with E Z track.
I actually use a couple for road crossings with a little work it looks great.
