CV = Configuration variable. These are the various functions which can be programmed (adjusted, changed) to customize a DCC locomotive. CVs can be things like lighting and sound effects, or less appearance things like the strength of inertia or momentum, locomotive speeds at various throttle settings, consisting and a number of others.
