Title: GE U-25B Diesel Locomotive power supply
Post by: grace.dean on July 20, 2012, 10:08:29 PM
I have just brought a Ge U-25B Diesel locomotive and am trying to run it on a 40 meter outdoor track.
I connected a 1amp 12  to. 18 volt controller, nothing happens at all , being new to model trains I,m haveing trouble working out which is the problem train or the power supply.
The train is new. I put a multi meter across the track and the volts read the same from one side of the track to the other.
Appreciate some advice.

Who made your engine?  Some engines have switches to turn on the motor.

do the lights work?

There is likely a door on the rear of the locomotive that has switches.  Also that locomotive is known for a very high amp draw, 1 amp may not be enough.  Try going to the Aristo-Craft Forum for better info.

There is a door on the rear of the U Boats. It   has switches for Lights. Smoke, and a Track/ Battery mode. It is probably switched to Battery. As Bill said, these Locos are a bit hungary for the amps, but they are good runners
