Title: decoder for analog ho gp30
Post by: steveeusd on August 22, 2012, 12:02:46 AM
Hello

Does anyone know if a "plug'n play" decoder exists for analog ho gp30?  Or must I hard wire it?

Thanks

Steve Williams

Steve, is there a dcc quick plug inside your unit?  If there is a quickplug any dcc decoder designed to nmra standards should plug into it very easily, otherwise, any decoder that has the functions you need can be spliced into the Im assuming its a bachmann engine fairly easily since most internals from Bachmann Ive seen are already isolated from the frame.

unless something has changed recently, the bachmann gp30s, like other split frame design locomotives, are not dcc ready. the motor has to be isolated from the frame, and there is no 8 pin plug. however, the conversion is not difficult, and almost any decoder with a wiring harness, not a plug, will work.

this is how you do it:
