Title: PCB boards in steam engines
Post by: SteamDriver on August 30, 2012, 01:21:47 PM
So after ordering a new decoder for a DCC ready 2-8-0 and getting ready to put it in, which end is which?
5 4
6 3
7 2
8 1
Using the above-mentioned numbering for the DCC decoder wires, are the numbers 8 and 1 pointing towards the front of the tender PCB connection to the engine or are they pointing towards the coupler on the back of the tender? If someone would answer I'd be very appreciative since I'm relatively new to installing a decoder in a steam engine.

the pinout for the decoder is set up such that it will run no matter which way it's plugged in. if you have it plugged in backwards, the lights won't work, so try turning it around if that's the case. you won't burn anything out by plugging it in wrong.

So it just plugs in and if the lights don't work then you have it in backwards. Thanks for letting me know.

So here are some useful links about DCC. Store the links in Favorites and do a lot of reading.

I am assuming you are new to DCC. There are many links in the links I am providing.

If you ever respond to someones question, try to include useful links. A picture is worth a thousand words.
