Title: Sound for new Bachmann engine
Post by: Mark FL on September 27, 2012, 11:16:09 AM
I am new to the DCC world and have just purchased a Bachmann GP Union Pacific 743 60713 that came DCC equipped. I am wondering if I can change out the DCC chip and add one that has sound?

You have to remove the decoder. The chips are on the decoder board.
Below is what SoundTraxx recommends for this loco.
This assumes you have DCC install experience.
Some soldering needed.
Possibly some frame modification to fit the speaker and baffle.

EMD GP40    TSU-AT1000 EMD 645 Turbo   Decoder 828041   speaker 810113

Thanks Rich. I work with electronics so this would not be a problem.  I am goint to attempt to install a small micro camera in the cab so I can watch the train go thru my layout.

that is the wrong sound file for this locomotive. gp35s have a 567 turbo, not a 645. they are not the same. if accuracy is what you want, do a search for the right sound file.

My bad. I was in a hurry. A search for the part number somehow came up with a GP40.
Another better search did show a GP35.
Below is a link to the SoundTraxx site for future reference you can save to Favorites.
Check the SoundTraxx site carefully. There is a lot of info there.

The below felow is into sound and the SoundTraxx products. Lots of good DCC and sound info. I just wish he would do a lot more about Bachmann for sound.
