Title: Prototype for Spectrum 4-6-0's?
Post by: blwfish on October 12, 2012, 05:38:06 PM
I know how they're decorated.  Is there a known prototype of these? I'm more interested in the 62" driver version than the one with smaller drivers, but both are interesting.

The low boiler version was patterned after Ma and Pa #27.  The high boiler version I don't know about.  Bachmann calls both Baldwin catalogue loco's which works fine for Me.

They both have the same boiler height. The driver diameter give the illusion of high and low.

It looks like the Nevada Northern #40 to me

Geared Steam- I think you pretty well nailed it, but, I think #40 has the low boiler's tender.  Was #40 originally owned by the Great Western?  As usual, I can't find the Great Western book I have when I need it.

beampaul7, the Nevada Northern #40 wasn't owned by the Great Western before the Nevada Northern. It was bought new by the Nevada Northern for $13,139 from Baldwin LW in 1910.
