Title: Decoder Install on Spectrum DCC Ready 0-6-0
Post by: steam era Jim on August 06, 2007, 06:47:22 PM
I have found two websites that have instructions for decoder install to the Spectrum DCC ready 0-6-0 dockside switcher.  One website says to remove the two yellow capacitors on the motor, and the other makes no mention of removing them.  Any thoughts, or does anyone have any experience with a decoder install and leaving them in?

Thanks! Jim

Using a non-silent decoder would allow you to leave the capacitors in but I do not know of one that is small enough.  Taking them out is okay with both silent and non-silent decoders.

Thanks Jim, I'll check that decoder.  I know it's a Digitrax Z type.  Would that be a non-silent decoder?  I'm not looking forward to taking this thing apart again!!! &%%&$$*

I have done a couple using Digitrax DZ123 decoders.  They are silent and do require cutting out the capacitors.  The latter is an easy step once the shell is opened up.
