a figure 8, no it cannot be done in that space.     but an inverted figure 8 or twice around over & under can be accomplished in 4x5.    as a matter of fact, the main part of my layout is that very configuration, and i did it in 4 1/2 x 4.

the illustration below shows both concepts.

Nice one, Jeff !

Looks like it's all 18"R.

Do you have lengths for each of the seven straight sides?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

yes i do!

from the list feature of anyrail.....

working anticlockwise from where the two loops cross,

outer loop, south, 9" and 2 1/4" (11.25" total)
outer loop west, 9"
outer loop north, 2 1/4", 9", 4 1/2" (15.75" total)
outer loop east, 4 1/2"

inner loop south, 9", 4 1/2" (13.5" total)
inner loop west, no straight
inner loop north, 9"
inner loop east, 4 1/2"

all curves 18r, 24 pc total
4 9" straights
4 4 1/2" straight
1 2 1/4" straight

believe it or not, if the clearance where the two tracks cross is kept to the minimum 3", the whole layout can be done easily with 3% grades.
