Title: Radius
Post by: poppyz on December 17, 2012, 10:11:42 AM

Does anyone know the minimum radius for the #50901 Berkshire loco? I have checked on line catalog without luck. Thanks

Bachmann recommends a 22"R curve, but I can say from experience with the 2-8-4 Berk, is it can take a 22"R turn no problems. I myself have had it running on a turn sharper than an 18"R with no problem (with the engine and tender couple long or if you prefer it put simply the tender peg on the rear most of the two draw-bar holes). But if you want the engine and tender coupled short (explanation shouldn't be needed for this one as there are only two holes on the draw-bar) I would stick to 18"R or higher. The recommended minimum radius this engine can take is just as the term implies RECOMMENDED. How sharp a turn you take this engine through is equal to how brave you are with the engine and the dimensions of your model railroad, but I would for sure recommend wider turnouts such as #6 or #8 turnouts.
