Title: opening a GP40
Post by: ssalak on January 16, 2013, 10:24:55 AM
Hello:  I would like to open up my Bachmann GP40 to change the LED.  This is the engine that came with the DCC set that Bachmann offers.  On the underside of the unit, it appears that there are two screw ends (not heads) one at the front and one at the back.  They possibly could be rivets.  Has anyone had any experience opening up this engine?

Thanks,
S.S.

To my understanding, you have to remove the couplers on the diesels and screws at the oil tank. I think some you have to pop the fuel tank cover off. Others here have done that.

Thanks Rich.  I'll give it a try this evening.    S.S.

I just looked at the diagram for this loco and what I see is the coupler screws seem to hold the shell in place. Look at your loco diagram sheet or the diagrams in the Bachmann site.
