Title: 81198 two truck Shay
Post by: peterjb on January 29, 2013, 08:50:15 PM
I recently got a Bachmann 35 ton two truck Shay.  Beautiful engine, didn't run right out of the box.  Three of the four gear were loose, which probably caused that.  It's such a nice engine, I would like to replace the current rucks with the new die cast #88999.  How difficult is this?  I have installe a sound system in one of my other steam locos, so i am at least somewhat  tecnically adept.  Any helpful hints would be appreciated.  Peter J.

Hi Peter,
It's pretty easy to do, you just have to be careful to match the polarity of the wires when you solder them to the wires from your original trucks (two on each truck) so they aren't cross wired.  The instructions that come with the trucks will guide you through the process.  If you are interested in "getting rid of" ;) the original trucks for parts, let me know.

John, How do I get a hold of you to get you my old Shay trucks.  Are e mail addresses permitted on this site?  Thanks, Peter J.
