i have an s4 4 that runs good but stops for about 7 seconds then starts up for time then does it again

the system runs on dcc digitrax controls dcs 51

Have you tried resetting the decoder to the factory settings?

Clean the track - mine stalled at several places, and ran fine after I used the old 'brite-boy'. This stalling happened even though my other DCC/Sound engine ran fine over the same track.

If you can set CV's, CV 8 will reset the decoder to the Bachmann defaults

I believe there was a similar post on this that turned up the wheel wipers were not touching properly on some of the wheels. I checked mine and sure enough two were not bent properly.

You are correct, sometimes the fingers don't type what the brain knows.  ::)
