What the wheel arrangements are for light/medium/heavy steam aren't really specified anywhere except by soundtraxx when looking at sound decoders for steam engines where they describe the types of engines each decoder would work for as such.
Light Steam: 4-4-0, 4-4-2, 2-6-0, 4-6-0, 2-8-0
Medium Steam: 4-6-2, 2-8-2, 4-6-4, 4-8-2, 2-10-0
Heavy Steam: 4-8-4, 2-10-2, 2-12-2, 2-8-8-2, 4-6-6-4
There is also a sound decoder for the D&RGW K Class Narrow Gauge 2-8-2 (see medium steam), as well as one for the Southern Pacific Cab Forward (for wheel arrangements see Heavy Steam), one for logging engines (4-4-0, 2-6-0, Shay, Climax, Hiesler), one for the D&RGW C Class engines (see light steam) and one for Southern Steam (Like the N&W J class engines and N&W articulated engines, same wheel arrangements as the Heavy Steam decoder).
