The new Alco s4 lists it has a die cast gear tower that the catalog describes,IS that the same meaning in general as the gear case or part of the frame that the gear case is mounted ?

Go to the diagram page and look at the digram of the loco. Expand the page 200 times and you can very clearly see what the setup is like. Kind of typical for diesels. All in the gear case. A worm driving a worm gear, plus all the spur gears. Connected via a drive shaft to the motor
