Title: DD40AX for DC operation
Post by: JNXT 7707 on April 04, 2013, 09:19:22 AM
I have a new Bachmann DD40AX "DCC on board" on its way, and wondering if I can put it on my DC layout immediately or if it requires making an adjustment to the decoder?
It is advertised as dual mode, but not being DCC-savvy not sure what is entailed.
Thanks

the short answer is yes it will run on dc. but since the decoder will use up about 5 or 6 volts of your track power you will find the loco's performance sluggish. look for a dummy plug in the box, open up the loco, unplug the decoder and use the dummy plug in the socket. this will restore full dc performance.

Below is the diagram you got with your loco. It has the instructions.

Just to close this out - DD40AX arrived today  :)

Although a bit nervous performing surgery on the brand-new beast, it went just fine and it's running great! Thanks guys.
