Title: Bachmann GO TRAIN PUSH PULL
Post by: Gunter on April 18, 2013, 03:26:25 PM
Hi.
I have a few Bachmann Bi Level GO TRAINS.
The control car derails frequently when pushed.
On the same loop, the Walthers Bi-Level Amtrak runs fine.
Any suggestions how to improve the performance would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I would try three things. Do you have enough weight.  Does the trucks swing freely. Make sure the coupler pin is not too low.  I guess one other thing.  Make sure the wheels are free rolling and in gauge.

Except for the weight, I checked the wheels and they are in gauge. I removed the front coupler.
I still can't push the cars. I wonder if there are better wheels available either from Bachmann or another supplier? The plastic sleeves are not holding the wheels in gauge and replacement wheel axels are too large in diameter.
It's very frustrating as I bought a few trains for push pull service.

OK. I don't know anything about these cars, so let me ask. Are the couplers truck mounted or body mounted?  Also is the derailment with the cab end or the other end, the one being pushed?
