Also is the rectangular base detachable?

It is detachable, and I'm not sure but it's probably about four inches each side. It's a square base.

OK so Cranky is up and operating but I am ththinking of putting wheels on his base so he can be pulled along the side of the container yard where he works.  Anyone ever try this?

I added a magnetic lift to cranky and he is hard at work

Yes I am The only thing I want to warn everyone is that cranky is a bit top heavy you have to either glue him or weight him down I chose the former using some stick on foam and tacky glue under is base.

The lift is a wooden drawer pull I got at Home Depot for 94 cents with a screw eye for another buck or so.  I sanded the bottom painted it and glued the magnet on.

I also opened the bottom of the containers to glue magnets inside.
