I would like to help you, but I am not sure what you are asking.
Do you want power not go to the diverging side route used as a spur when the switch points are set for the straight route?
If so you can always use an on-off toggle switch to cut power to the spur. If a siding then it has to be isolated at one end.

Hi Ken.

I had an oval track, then added 2 turnouts. 44864 and 44863 and 3 straights. i used to be able to stop a loco, change the points and start the other loco from the siding going. for some reason, now when I change the turnouts (points in New Zealand) there is still power to both sections of track.

Hi garrya,

Sounds like you are using power routing turnouts.
Try feeding power somewhere between the point ends of the two turnouts.
