Title: Digitrax SDH164D
Post by: rondon47 on January 20, 2014, 12:00:06 PM
Has anyone out there installed a Digitrax SDH164D in a Bachmann DCC-ready loco?  Even after reading the manual for the decoder, I'm still unsure what to do with the extra wires that come out of the "sound" end of the decoder.  I know how to install a regular DCC decoder, but haven't used this particular decoder before, and am unsure about how to wire up the sound end.  Do I need to use the wires (separate from the speaker and capacitor and the white steam sync wire) that have nothing connected to them?  Remember, this is the sound end of the decoder, not the motion/lights end.  Help.  thanks.

The white wire is for hooking up a cam for the steam chuffs. The others are for lighting effects. IE ditch lights or a strobe light.  Joe

Read the document that came with the decoder.
Make sure you tape over the unused wires. A few users did not while testing the loco and an uninsulated wire touch a connection, rail, loco frame,  and smoked the decoder.
