I have an early Davenport and a new one with DCC "on board". Last night I found the schematic for the old one and discovered there is a circuit board on top of the motor w/o a decoder hooked up like in the schematic for the new one. Question: does this mean the early one is DCC ready, just awaiting a decoder?

On the front of the schematic, it should say DCC ready.
If you still have the box it came in, it should also say DCC ready.
Remove the shell, if it is DCC ready it will have the 8 pin socket
with two jumpers on it.
Remove the jumpers, plug in a decoder and off you go.

The early Davenports have a circuit board which is DCC ready. However, they don't have a socket. They have solder tabs at the edge of the board.

Thanks, guys, I'll pull the shell off tonight and have a look. By your answers, I am guessing there is difference in the Davenport motor from the Porters that have to be rewired in some fashion (isolating the motor)
