Appendix A in the EZ Track Planning and Guide Book presents a bunch of HO layouts. But the layouts do not present dimensions, such as the size of the table you need. This can be approximated of course, but is there some other way to find out, before having to order all of the track and related pieces?

It's probably a 4X8 foot plan. Most track plans are for a sheet of plywood. Look in the guide. It probably states that some where. Joe
My opinion ;
Most 4X 8 plywood-based layouts leave a lot to be desired. This being said, it does in no way, infer that one must build a layout that has overpowered the room. Most successful layouts out there have a definite "reason for being", just as does the prototype; and do not necessarily have to be big and gaumy; just built with a little forethought and insight. One of the places to find the insight is in the hobby mags; another is on places like "you tube", on which there is s wealth of information. I personally think that if you build with a purpose that reflects standard prototype practice, then you will enjoy this hobby even more.

Go pick up the latest Kalmbach annual magazine available now in stores, it's called: -
"How To Build Small Model Railroads."
It has some good track plans that go beyond the tail chasing typical 4 x 8 oval, which can quickly become boring. It also contains ideas on giving your railroad a purpose, even on a 4 x 8, which most 4 x 8 track plan books put out by the makers of set track do not have.
