Title: n scale layout design
Post by: bsulzbach on December 19, 2014, 02:07:10 PM
I am building a 20' by 13' n scale layout, the layout is 2' wide and in some areas it is 3' wide and it is shaped like the letter U. Could someone direct me where i could find track designs so i could get some ideas.

Model Railroader Magazine (http://mrr.trains.com) has a searchable track plan database. They also sell quite a number of books on track planning, track plans, and layout design and construction.

Dear B,

If you plan on turning around at the ends of your "U",

you will need somewhere around 26" width for sharp curves,

out to 40" width for broad curves.

This according to John Armstrong in his book "Track Planning for Realistic Operation, 3rd Edition", page 84. (Highly recommended.)

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
