Title: large scale narrow guage climax
Post by: rfgurnham on December 22, 2014, 06:58:19 PM
I have a climax that runs well, but the lights do not come on (the engine is about 10 years old and never been used).  There is a switch inside the front of the boiler but it has no effect on the lights.  I think it is for a smoke generator.  Is there another switch somewhere that I am missing?  I do not have the operating instructions.

Maybe this video will help.

Here is a screenshot of the various switches underneath the sand boxes at the rear of the bunker.

If the Climax is 10 years old, that would make the Climax a 1st-release version, so those switches would not be there.

Here's a link to George Schreyer's web page on the Climax that might help:

http://girr.org/girr/tips/tips5/climax_tips.html

I saw a reference to the firebox lights not liking pulse-width-modulation power, but nothing about the headlights (except that George replaced the LEDs with incandescent bulbs).

Beyond that, I can't be of much assistance.

Later,

I just checked my manual for my loco of the same vintage and there is no switch for the head/rear lights, only smoke. The power comes from the main circuit board embedded in the loco shell. They are suppose to be directional. Perhaps the directional diodes were put in backwards or the light/led are defective. Do either of the lights (head or rear) work?
