Post by: bsulzbach on January 19, 2015, 09:43:46 AM
Hi Guy's
I am using code 50 Atlas and one part of my layout is 3ft wide and i want to have 2 curved tracks going around that 3ft section. Is it possibaale and can somone tell me what the minimum radius is for N code 50 Atlas.
Thanks Bill,

Hi Bill,

With Atlas code 55 rail your options are 13.75, 12.5, 11.25, and 10 inch radius, or flex track.
10r is the smallest in their code 55 line.
How far apart your track centers are spaced along the radii is strictly governed by the length of your longest piece of rolling stock and the overhang created (clearance in passing situation).

IIRC there is a Standard or Recommended Practice listed somewhere on the NMRA site for this.

Good luck

Assuming a couple inches outside the curve to safety, you are looking at realistically about a 30-32" Dia. for the outer track so you should be safe with 15"r and 16.25"r if you want to do sectional. Suggestion...learn to use flex and you can make it what ever you want.
