Title: ?type of decoder in my 4-4-0
Post by: Blind Bruce on March 21, 2015, 06:11:24 PM
I have a Spectrum 4-4-0 of unknown age. It has factory sound and DCC. It is lettered C&NW #221. I have no data on it but I would like to adjust the CVs. Where could I find the decoder manufacturer and the CV values to change?

Blind Bruce -- Take a closer look --  your locomotive may be made by Athearn not Bachmann.
And if old enough it just may have a MRC decoder not SoundTraxx. What is the value in CV 8?

Read the value for CV8. Every decoder has a manufacturer ID at CV8.

Bachmann is 101

MRC is 143

Throttle Up (Soundtraxx) is 141

A net search will turn up a complete listing.

I guess there is a reason behind the name for Bruce's user ID. ;)

If it is a Bachmann  Spectrum DCC Sound locomotive with factory installed sound it has a SoundTraxx Tsunami decoder.
