Title: HO turntable gear noise
Post by: rcbenn99 on July 05, 2015, 02:36:36 PM
Just purchased and plugged together a Bachmann HO turntable. Seems like a lot of whirring and gear noise before the deck actually starts moving. Is that normal? Don't want to burn up my new toy. Also, it appears that I need about 40 - 60% power on the speed controller. Can I use a 6 volt wall wart to run the turntable? Again, don't want to ruin the unit.

Thanks for responses
Bob

Bob;
I am not familiar with Bachmann's table, but what I will tell you is for you  to take a look at the motor specs.  If, for example, it calls for a 12VDC feeder, then that is what it is engineered to work with.  Now, if you wanted to power it with-say-9VDC, it should run, albeit slower.  If it was 12VDC, and you fed it with a 24VAC Xformer, you will promptly and completely burn up said motor.  Just one of those hard facts of life, I reckon... ???
