i have a 4/8 layout... a dc set
with 3 dc trains
and i have 2 dc bachmann power packs i hooked up and i was wondering how many lights can it power? Undecided
because i have 4 small lights i want to power with a bachmann steam sound station i bought on ebay
even though the instructions say you should only put one accesory into each,
will it be enough to power it and run 1 train?
yes call me unprofessional...
Fyi ill put some pictures of the layout within the week. : Tongue
I see no reason why you can't have you four light and the steam sound station. Go for it.
The worst thing that could happen is that you start a fire and burn the house down.
On each power pack, there is a power rating. On each light and other accessory there is a pawer rating (watts or volts and amperes). Do not try to pull more power out of a supply than it is rated for. It will get upset, start smoking, and may start a fire.
Nigel is right!
Asking electrons to do more work then they should is just like asking people to do too much work - they get over heated!
A cool electron is a happy electron.
Learn about the simpe rules of electrical power and/or get some qualified help to avoid burned up equipment and burned down houses.

Summertrainz;
Find an informative book on basic electricity. It sounds like you should read that treatise BEFORE following yours or anyone else's advice! If I sould like a hardnose, it is because I am. THis stuff is nothing to fool with, and if you don't know what you are doing, keep your hands out if it until get informed. All of this I say as an electrician who has seen some pretty horrendous results of cavalier approaches to electricity.
