Title: Capacitor across motor leads?
Post by: billoberst on November 05, 2020, 04:51:00 PM
I've been told by TCS decoders the reason some older Bachmann steamers  won't run correctly when you add a aftermarket  decoder to a DCC ready engine. Because that some have a capacitor across the engine leads that has to be removed before adding a decoder. Does anyone know about this and do you have to remove the shell to find it or might it be on the printed circuit board in the tender? I normally have real trouble removing the shell on Bachmann Steamers. Thanks Bill

The caps and the two inductors can affect BEMF. Back EMF. Just clip the caps. No big deal. I clipped all mine. With no caps, the two inductors are a moot point. The Ferrite inductors are zero resistance. In at least one loco, all are buried under the cab.
Google Back EMF.
