Title: Pinion gear
Post by: Mcgill on March 16, 2021, 02:55:00 PM
Any suggestions Where to find a pinion gear for an old Tyco power torque motor?

I would guess ebay. Never heard of what part of  loco it was used in.

The 'Power Torque' motor is a pancake motor in a metal, rather than plastic, frame. It was used in many Tyco diesel and tender drive steam locomotives.

Your best bet will probably be to just find another Tyco locomotive with a working motor somewhere on line and swap the entire motor out. Or just swap shells if it's the same type of locomotive.

Similar motors were used in Tyco slot cars, and some slot car shops carry replacement pinions for them. It's a bit of a long shot, but you could give it a try.

If the pinion cam loose, and you still have it, some people claim in can be super glued back in place. Clean the shaft and pinion hole real well before trying though.

Now I renumber seeing them many years ago but tossed all my slot car stuff from brother many years ago when he passed away.

I'm just learning the ropes on this website, but I
appreciate your comments.  Mine is a low budget
restoration project for fun.  It was going great until
I lost the gear - now I have a situation!  Thanks for the
help!
