Title: HO scale layout
Post by: 0-6-0 steam mistress on December 31, 2023, 08:12:26 PM
Hello the forum,

I'm new to this hobby and I would like to build a twice around the Christmas tree ho scale layout.
Does anyone know of or where to locate the plans for the layout? Everything online is for mostly O scale.
I'm not a diehard user of this hobby like most(job takes most of my time). Just want a nice running train under Christmas tree other than a circle or oval.

Thank you for any and all help.

Here are twice around setups using E-Z Track that I did with Anyrail. I can give you the track list if any of these are what you are looking for. You can expand them in some areas using straights on opposites sides. Be advised though that sometimes Anyrail isn't always correct.

Thank you for the information Terry.
I'm interested in the 30 degree crossing track list.
Thanks.

I forgot to include a terminal track in the set up. You can substitute a terminal track for one of the straights or curves.  44502 is the curved terminal track and 44510 is the straight terminal track.
You need the "fitter assortment" (44592) to get the 1 1/4" and 2" straights.
Track
44501, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 18", angle 30º   24
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9".   2
44513, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2 1/4".   2
44540, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 11 15/16". 30º   1
44592-3, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1 1/4".   2
44592-5, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2".   2

Track lengths
44501, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 18", angle 30º   226 3/16
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9".   18
44513, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2 1/4".   4 1/2
44540, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 11 15/16". 30º   23 27/32
44592-3, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1 1/4".   2 1/2
44592-5, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2".   4

Total track length:   23'-3 1/16"

The short pieces on top are a 2" and a 2 1/4" on each side of the curve. The 1 1/4" pieces are on the inside on top on each side of the curve

Here is that layout expanded by adding straights between opposite curves. I used full 9" straights but you can use shorter ones. Since the tracks come 4 to a card, you can use the extra two 9" and extra two 2 1/4" to add them anywhere I have added the  straights as long as they are on opposite sides.

Actually if I can piggyback on this thread.  I too am new to this hobby and just received my first train.  it's a Bachmann HO scale Union Pacific.  Right now we have the standard circle track going around our Christmas Village.  I really wanted to try the below layout in the link, I call it the pretzel.  I'm not sure how to convert it to HO scale?  Nor what additional pieces we would need?  Our platform is roughly 42" x 42", so I'm not sure if the pretzel would give our village more room or less...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here's the pretzel.  It is 65" wide and 56" long.
