Post by: steve@catanzarofoodproduc on January 17, 2024, 11:54:35 AM
I'm looking for the plastic gear that goes to my engine. Bachmann Emmett Kelly Jr. Circus Train The Ring Master.
I can't find one, and Bachmann doesn't have any. Anything would help. Thanks

Hi Steve,

In order to help we will need to know which version of chassis your locomotive has and which gear you need.  The Ringmaster set was made over many years and as a result it went thru many chassis changes.

It will be one of the following:
Version 2  1990-1994  Smooth Bottom Cover  You can turn drivers by hand and motor will turn.
Version 3  1994-1998  Smooth Bottom Cover You cannot turn the drivers by hand.
Version 4  1998-1999  Large wide hump dead center between the rear drivers on bottom cover.
Version 5  2000-Pres  3/8th inch wide hump offset between the rear drivers and a plastic lubrication plug the size of a dime to the rear of the hump and has the old style slotted front truck.

Once identified let us know what gear you need and we will try to help!

I also have this problem with the 040 roustabout locomotive in a Kelly Jr Train. Is there anyplace to get the gear, or the whole gear box? Beleave its a version 4? It has a hump in the bottom cover between the rear driver.

Hi Fire, Unfortunately the above ID is only for the 4-6-0, not the O-4-0. I would contact NWSL.  Some years ago I sent them an 0-4-0 and a 2-4-2 so they could make the correct gears.  I have no idea if they ever did.  Once you remove the gear measure the size of the axle, then the width and then the radius of the gear. Count the number of teeth and then give them a call.  They should be able to help.

Bill, I have updated the version list to include the newer plug and play loco... I realize your list is focused on the drivetrain, but lots of questions pouring in on adding decoders.

If you have a chance, would you check my page and see if I made mistakes or omissions?

Regards, Greg

Greg My id list was truncated in this post because the poster was asking about an older product, my full list including the PNP 4-6-0 is listed here.  https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,37791.0.html  I am usually very focused on the posters problem, and try not to overload the poster.  Your info seems fine to me.

Jiro Yeramian, known as the Gear Man on Facebook, makes gears from Delrin, and I have bought gears for the 2-4-2 Columbia loco from him. I don't know if they fit the 0-4-0, but send him the info and he'll figure out whether he has already made one, or he will make one for you.

His email is [email protected].
