Title: Standards Question
Post by: Chesticus on January 08, 2008, 02:05:32 AM
If you have a track of 30" radius (outside) on a curve, what is the separation between center lines of the outside and inside track?
I can't get this info anywhere. My guess is about 2.25 " what do you guys think?

The NMRA sets standards for curves based on the class of equipment to be used.  See Standard S-8 at:  http://www.nmra.org/standards/s-8.html
For moderate sized locos (like 2-8-2's), the standard is 2 1/8".  If you are going to be running big power like 4-8-4's, then use 2 1/2".

Thank you very much. I don't know why, but I was there last night and I could not make heads or tails out of it. I may have just been tired. Thanks for the link.

BTW, you measure the radius of a curve in the centre of the rails, not to the outside.
