Title: Replacement parts for G scale 45 ton center cabswitcher
Post by: [email protected] on June 05, 2025, 12:46:35 AM
Hello folks,
New to the forum, not large scale. Have been kitbashing and scratch building for years. I've never needed to find electrical components until now. Just purchased a single powered truck for the G scale 45 ton switcher and need the contact points(part G81803) for just one truck. Is there a business that sells parts, used or new for this locomotive? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Perry

Perry, there is no business that sells parts for it that I know of.  Here is a copy of the wiring diagram, but not sure it will help much. I was thinking that perhaps you could jury rig something based on the diagram.

Good hunting.

I have a small home-made 0-4-0 switching engine with that truck. I have also worked on an original loco.

There are 4 wiper pads on top of the truck, as shown on the PDF wiring diagram. The 2 side ones connect to the wheel pickups, and the front/back pair are the motor.
To use the truck on track power, you connect the outer pair to the front/back pair. My loco is battery powered so it just has wires from the motor pads.

P.S. after a while, the plungers wiping on the pads stop working well, and you find the loco stops with one truck running and the other not!  We soldered wires directly to the pads to bypass the plungers.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try wiring directly from wheel pickups to motor.

I kitbashed one of the 45 tonners into a boxcab with battery power many years ago.  I also wired the leads directly to the trucks.  It has worked flawlessly ever since.

Happy kitbashing!

How do we add photos to a thread?

Use a third party photo app, put your photo in it , copy the URL for your photo, then paste the url to your Forum response.

to re-answer one of the original questions:

there are a few small companies/individuals that 3d print some of the common replacement parts, mostly detail parts that are easily broken, and some truck sideframes.
