Title: 2-8-2 Mikado
Post by: Hank2025 on September 25, 2025, 01:09:06 AM
Is the NYC 2-8-2 Steam Engine & Tender IHC M9816 Mikado a smoker?  I picked up a used one but I can't find any specs on it.

Most serious Model Railroad considered smoke in model locomotives to be an unrealistic affectation.  The physics of smoke cannot be scaled down to a realistic appearance.  And most smoke fluids carry vapors that will settle in a greasy film in the room.

Of course, if there's a kid involved, the smoke adds tremendous additional play value, and absolute realism is not an important factor.  Regardless of how it's viewed, the fact will always remain that the smoke will eventually put a oily film on things in the room.
