Title: Disassembling passenger cars and caboose
Post by: Yellow_Tank_Car on November 23, 2025, 04:28:52 PM
I have recently acquired a small On30 collection, and I would like to repaint some of the rolling stock, but I cannot figure out how to take apart the passenger cars and the caboose. They are the only ones I have not figured out. The caboose is the 8-wheel center cupola caboose, and the passenger cars are the baggage, combine, and coach (which I assume they are all assembled the same, but listing them out just in case they are completely different for some reason).

For the passenger cars, gently squeeze the side of the roof-you can normally "pop" the tabs free of the side and just lift away, one side at a time. If needed, you can use wooden tooth picks inserted between the roof and sides to keep it from dropping back in place while doing the opposite side.

No clue on the caboose, as I do not own one.

I don't have a center cupola caboose but I have 2 logging cabooses and they basically come apart like the passenger cars. Just be sure to disconnect the ladders from the roof first - usually the ladder will just pop out of the bracket. Hope this helps.
