I have a Bachmann HO 3 truck shay that is a disaster. I have had a national company and a local train repair guy attempt to do the NWSL metal gear replacement and both failed. First just had massive play, second was also not quite right.
So, seeing that Bachmann is releasing the HO Shay again with metal gears, will the trucks on the new release be compatible with my locomotive. It is really my last resort before the trash can.
Any comments or advice most appreciated. I really do like this locomotive and want it to run as it should.
I sent Bachmann a message shortly after they announced the new run of Shays asking if they would be compatible with the older runs, or if they would be again making sideframes available in the parts store. That was a while ago now and Bachmann has never responded. I'm hopeful but a bit frustrated at the lack of response.

Well, just received an email from a vendor offering the new Shay, basically preorder.
I immediately called Bachmann USA, spoke to a very nice lady and have some info.
They are waiting to receive samples and will make a determination as to parts compatibility.
If the trucks are compatible they will be offered for sale and we can get them through the parts department.
Anyone know date first shays were available from Bachmann as I have a few and would like to know their age? Thanks.

The DC version of the Shay was first announced in the 2000 catalog, I believe they started shipping in 2001.The Soundtraxx Tsunami DCC Sound version was announced in 2008.

Did the lady give any idea of a date that we will see these? I have two of the originals and got screwed with a NWSL gear install. Sent them to a shop that was recommended by NWSL. Paid a fortune, and when they came back none of the gears are in the correct position to mesh with the gears on the wheels. So only one or two axles drive each locomotive.
Hi, I also require gears or trucks for my Shays so await with interest if Bachmann go ahead and makes the new stuff available. Does NWSL still make the metal gears for these?

I'm also anxiously awaiting results.
