Title: 44 tonner
Post by: hgcHO on June 29, 2008, 11:56:26 PM
I intend to purchase a GE 44 Ton Diesel Switcher.

BUT fellow club member said purchase two because the pickup needs two on this layout because the 44 may stop for reasons: pick-up not as effective.

If you have a GE 44 Tonner; is this a problem?  Or is this member just having a problem?

Just keep stuff clean and there will be no problems. Add weight if you can...

I have several of them and all have fine pick up. No problem in that area. The 44ton switcher is as good as all other two truck diesel engines.

The pickup is really no problem.
I do not like the noise of the running engine. It sounds bad while the little loco runs fine and smooth.
You have to fight fire with fire!
I installed a Loksound micro into that little beast without problems. The decoder fits under one hood, the speaker under the other hood. Only thing to change are the lights. The lamps have to be replaced by LED directly glued into each hood.

Have fun!
