Title: Unitrack and Turntable
Post by: VeritechCEO on November 07, 2008, 10:29:22 PM
Ok, Kato doesn't seem to make a turntable, I have plans to install one on my layout and use Unitrack.  What's the best way to go about connecting a Heljan 98' Turntable with Kato Unitrack?

Are we talking about Heljan's digitally controlled turntable or the one that you have to position by eye?

Generally, you have to cut a bit of the base away from the Kato approach tracks, leaving just the rail.  This rail then has to be matched to the height of the turn table rim by shimming up the track or the turntable.  If you have to shim up the track, make sure there is several inches of flat, level track next to the turntable rim to make crossing from the approach tracks to the bridge rails as easy as possible.  If you have to shim up the rim, make sure to shim it up evenly all the way around.  You might even consider cutting a large "washer" of the right thickness to do the job.
