Title: Mogul 2-6-0
Post by: GG on January 01, 2009, 05:54:49 PM
A few questions:

What would be the minimum "comfortable" track diameter for this style of loco?

Can I put third party sound into the tender?  ie) Phoenix.

Thanks

GG,
You don't indicate which Mogul, the Spectrum or the Industrial.

Both will operate easily on 8' diameter (4' radius) curves.  I've never run either locomotive on anything less than 8' diameter.  So this is the limit of my experience with minimum diameter for either of the Moguls.

Possibly someone with experience running on tighter diameter will jump in with their observations

A Phoenix sound system will fit in either of the Mogul's tenders.  Plenty of room.

Like Jon, I prefer 8' diameter, and feel that the Spectrum mogul looks better on that or larger.  I tried it on a trainset circle once and the Spectrum Mogul will run (poorly) on the tighter curves but doesn't look right to me.  I use 10 foot diameter track on my mainline (indoors) and feel that the mogul looks better pulling it's five J&S passenger cars around.  The train would look much better on larger curves, but the indoor aspect prevents me from using larger diameter curves.  I can get sound(sierra Soundtraxx) easily into the tender.

I have no experience with the industrial mogul.
