Title: Installing DCC decoder in N Scale Norfolk & Western #611
Post by: TWygant on March 01, 2009, 11:18:23 AM
I'm awaiting arrival of my "DCC Ready" N Scale Bachmann Norfolk & Western #611 4-8-4 Class "J" Locomotive and am interested to know what decoders fit this unit.  I realize that "DCC Ready" means that the motor is already isolated from the frame and not to expect drop-in installation.  I've also installed DCC decoders in other N Scale Bachmann locomotives.  Those units came with removable jumpers and had holes in the circuit boards to easily install the decoders.  Does this unit require frame modification to house a decoder?  Are there sound units available for this unit?  Does anybody have a copy of the exploded parts list handy that will help me figure out what I'm getting into here?  I run DCC exclusively  ???on my layout and don't want to have a locomotive that sits idle (or in its box) most of the time because of potential overheating issues while running in DC mode on my layout.  Thanx!
