Title: Squealing DC engine with EZ Command Control
Post by: JohnP1959 on March 01, 2009, 11:46:25 AM
Hello all on this forum,

I am new to model railroading and in the very early stages  of building my first layout. I have the Overland Limited train set that came with a DC Union Pacific 4-8-4. My question is I purchased an EZ Command Control unit off ebay and when I hook it up my DC engine makes a high pitched squeal and at first would not run all the time, but now just sqeals and will not run t all and I am using channel 10 which is supposed to be for DC. If I hook up my DC power supply the train runs perfectly.

I have not been able to try a DCC engine yet as I just bought my first one and it is scheduled for delivery on Wednesday.

Is it normal for some DC engines to act this way on DCC?

I have learned a lot over the last couple of months from this board but could not find any info on this type of problem.

Thank You in advance for helping out a newbie.

John

The squeeling is normal for a non decodered engine. If you try an engine with a decoder it will run normally. You will find also that a non decodered engine on DCC will only run at about 50% speed at full throttle.
Hope this helps.
