Title: E-Z track turnout trouble II
Post by: Paul M. on April 07, 2007, 09:54:27 AM
Well, it's happened again. This time, TWO of my E-Z track turnouts have stopped working, and a third turnout had its wire unsoldered. I'm pretty sure I can solve the third turnout's problem, even though I don't own a soldering iron. I think I could just take it to a place like RadioShack and they might re-solder it for me. I took apart one of my other two non-working turnouts and discovered  that the little wire thing that connects the clip of the points to the motor of the turnout has gone missing. :o Following me? The other E-Z track turnout has the same problem, and I think it's also missing the wire thingy. Does anybody know if I could send the turnouts to be replaced or if they could mail me a couple of the wire things that connect the points to the motor of the turnout?

Paul, you might consider going to Radio Shack and buying a soldering iron.  Soldering is a skill that can be learned and once learned, is invaluable to a model railroader.  Read some primers on soldering, like the one below, then practise on bits of wire and track until you are good at it.  Pretty soon, people will be bringing things to you to get soldered.

Hello Everyone:

Paul, I agree with Jim, buy a soldering Iron, it is a needed item in model railroading, besides radio shack employees wouldn't touch the item to solder it.

get a low wattage soldering iron like a 30 watt one,

also the bachmann turnouts are notorious for burning out, if you have a layout that is permanent, get an atlas under the table switch machine, easy to install, easy to use.

and if it burns out, just remove it without tearing out a section of track.

just a thought

take care

George
