Post by: xbz on January 26, 2010, 06:00:25 PM
Hello

One basic and may be stupid question ! Can DCC equipped locomotives can run on a railroad powered with 12 V DC  ?

Thanks for your answer

No not necessarily, only if it is equipped with a dual mode decoder and if it is programmed to run on analog power (standard DC). Most newer locomotives are equipped with dual mode decoders, some require you to manually move the jumper to do so (i.e. Atlas).

Thanks for your answers

My question concerns more particularly Bachmann DCC-equipped locomotives ! Are they equipped with dual mode decoder ?

All Bachmann HO locomotives that have factory DCC-On Board have dual mode decoders. But sometimes a locomotive will not run as well on DC as on DCC (or vice versa). Also, the decoder is useless unless you are running it with a DCC System of some sort. So, there is no benefit to buying a DCC loco over a DC loco unless you have or plan to have a DCC system.
