I got the Bachmann Spectrum explorer set with a 2-8-0...what the difference in this 2-8-0... http://www.trainsetsonly.com/page/TSO/PROD/160-51302

There is no difference, except this loco is really expensive, a lot more than  what you would pay on ebay for the same loco.

The set would have the cars and track but the other is a loco by its self.

I bought a Bachmann 2-8-0 w/ DCC for $40 including s&h from the favorite spot at auction (not buy it now).

can the ez command control sound if its already installed in the loco

It can control up to 8 sound effects, but you can't modify the sounds or variables. There may not be any 2-8-0's right now, but they are there periodically.

I don't recall the dvd that came with the ez command saying anything about controlling sound how does it work

Push the yellow function button and numbers 2-9 and sometimes 1 control sounds, when you have your dcc w/ sound loco selected.

Bachmann "Instructional" DVD's are about the most worthless items for instruction I have encountered.  The only thing worse are the printed instructions and parts diagrams.  I hope the Bacchman is reading this.
