Title: Old Locomotive Packaging
Post by: spookshow on May 12, 2007, 08:29:13 AM
OK, this is probably me finally going off the deep end, but I'm wondering about Bachmann's old locomotive packaging.

Mainly I'm interested in their line of cheapie "train set" locomotives ((IE, not Bachmann Plus and not Spectrum). As near as I can tell, there were four basic packages used from 1968 up until around 2001 (when everything was switched over to the fancy jewell cases with the blue paper inserts):

Can anybody help me to put approximate dates to these? I believe the "upright" one (top-most) was used for the first couple of years (1968-1970), and that the white cardboard box was the most recent (in use up until around 2001). Beyond that, I have no idea. Any help?

Thanks,
-Mark

I don't know if Bachmann put any marking on the bottom? Look for "made in Hong Kong" or "made in China". AFAIK Bachmann/Kader may use the same factory? Your lineup appears to be about right, with oldest at the top & newest at the bottom. I used to see many of the box type made to be used on a hanging hook rather than a shelf in the hobbyshop.

Glenn,

If this is the 'Spookshow' I'm thinking of, take a look at
