I bought a (new/old stock) undecorated Life-Like E8. I tested it when I received it only to find that the motor is shot. I called Walthers about the problem and they stated that they could repair it for $45.00 bucks plus $10.00 shipping. Walther service and parts person said the do not sell replacement motors, so I was wondering if any knows where I might be able to find a replacement or what will work instead.
Your best bet would be to buy another E-8 on ebay and just replace the shells, you could also check trains shows for units with poor shells that run well (some shows have test tracks). Check these two ebay links: http://toys.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=e8&_sacat=19135&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_sop=15&_dmpt=Model_RR_Trains&_odkw=proto+2000+e8&_osacat=19135&bkBtn= (http://toys.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=e8&_sacat=19135&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_sop=15&_dmpt=Model_RR_Trains&_odkw=proto+2000+e8&_osacat=19135&bkBtn=)

If you are sure the problem is the motor, ABC's solution is probably the cheapest. If you still want to buy a replacement motor, check with Proto Power West/A-Line and Northwest Short Line. Both have web sites and both sell quality re-motoring parts.
Old Timer
Hate to go off topic but do u know the year of that model?
It is probably from around 1999-2000, but some were released in 2001.
OK, a friend from youtube has a broken one and he wanted to bring it to my layout and i didn't wanna blow it because of my DCC controller.
